Here are profiles of all our current committee members, complete with a picture so freshers can put a name to a face!

President

Lauren

Studies: Primary Education

Hey everyone! I joined cheer in my first year simply because I had danced previously and wanted to try a new style! I fell in love with the sport and how easy it was to get on with everyone. I love that we all work so hard to do our best and how we can boost each others spirits in an instant and as president I will be overseeing all aspects of the society to ensure that we remain a strong, and succeeding sports team.

Vice President

Joe

I'm Joe and I'm the Vice President of the cheerleading society. I decided to join cheer after going to the taster session and discovering that it was great fun, a good way to meet new people and a way to keep myself fit. As Vice President, I work closely with the President to ensure that all the practice spaces are organised, all the competitions are entered into and then I organise transport to them and any hotels that we may need.

Coach

Dee

Alumknight

This is my 3rd year coaching the Reading Knights and I am so excited for the season! I graduated from Reading uni 2 years ago and can honestly say that cheerleading made a huge impact on my uni life, I got super fit, learnt new skills and made some of my best friends for life! I am in love with the cheer life (despite being a self-confessed tomboy) all the way from big pretty bows to sweating hard and killing it in training and I can't wait to share that with all my new and old athletes this year!

Assistant Coach

Laura

Hello to all old Knights and potential freshers! I'm Laura, I'm a 4th year pharmacy student and this season will be my 14th year of cheerleading; I'm still as in love with the sport as the day I started. Joining Reading Knights was one of the best decisions I've made since being at uni and I am privileged to be able to help out as a coach this upcoming season. My advice to anyone who is unsure about joining is to just go ahead and do so, you won't regret it! It's so much fun and a great way to make amazing friends. It also keeps you in great shape, as well as acting as a much needed break from uni work. Hope to see you at training!

Ami & Ash

I'm Brionni I'm a third year psychology student. I've always wanted to be a cheerleader after watching films like Bring It On because it looked like so much fun and I loved the cute uniforms. My role is dance coach so I'm responsible for all things dance related in the squads. My favourite things about the society is how everyone super close and it's like a little knights family!

We’re Ami and Ashleigh, your Match Day / Level 1 coaches this year. We’ve been part of the society for 2 years now and between us we have over 10 years cheer experience. We’ve found cheer is an amazing way to meet new people, not only within our society, but across a number of sports - not to mention the amazing socials we’re renowned for. Match Day/ Level One is going to be really exciting this year, our teams will have the chance to experience both the atmospheres of competitions and matches! We’re so excited for this year, and can’t wait to be coaching together again.

Media Rep

Social Sec

Studies: English Lit

Hey! My name's Nia and I'm the Media Rep, so I organise everything from the Instagram account to photoshopping uniform designs! I joined cheer in my first year as it's a great way to meet new people and get involved with university life. What I love about cheer is the freedom you get within the society, there are many different levels to choose from and everyone is so encouraging in helping you improve. Feel free to come to me with any pictures and videos for our social media as I love posting our talent!

Hey guys! I joined cheerleading as I wanted to join a society which offered a range of activities and had a great social aspect to it as well. I liked the idea that you could chose whether or not you wanted to compete and that it focused on a range of different skills such as tumbling, dance and stunting. If you're looking for a society which keeps you fit and has some amazing people, then cheer is for you! It does not matter if you have no cheer related experience! I am social sec on the committee which means I arrange various socials from nights out to non-alcohol focused events. Most recently we had our annual Leavers Meal which included a 3 course meal, a photographer and Cheer Awards.

Ellie

Im Sophie, a second year Speech Therapy student and I only began cheer in my first term last year. I can honestly say that it was one of the best decisions I made at uni! My confidence, fitness and social life have all benefited greatly from joining the Reading Knights and I hope that you will gain as much satisfaction and passion for the sport as I have. This year I have the massive but exciting task of making you all look as glamorous and fierce as possible as your uniform rep! Whether that is with your uniform, training kit or the staple of cheer....bows! While I know that this can be a pricey part of cheer my aim is to make sure you are proud to wear our colours- plus, who doesnt love a bit of glitter!

Treasurer

Studies: Law

Liz

Hi, I'm Liz and I am the treasurer of the Reading Knight Cheerleaders. My role on the committee focuses on controlling the financial side of the society, but feel free to ask me anything about the society as a whole. I'm a 3rd year law student, joining cheer in my first year at Reading, with no experience of cheering or gymnastics. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as cheerleader, the team is great as well as the coaching and I would highly recommend to anyone to join one of the best societies on campus.

Hi I'm Ellie and this my 3rd year at Reading University, and as part of the Reading Knights. Even though I'm on placement this year, I will still be competing and will be your secretary this year!
Joining cheer has been my favourite thing about uni. I've met the best friends, have been to the funniest socials, competed in 5 competitions which have all been so fun, and been on sports tour to Salou which was a very drunk, hilarious week!
Cheer allows you to try something completely new, whilst still carrying on with dance/ gymnastics if you did it before uni! Anyone can join cheer and despite what you might think it is honestly one of the most friendliest, approachable societies on campus! I hope you all decide to join us because I am so so excited to meet you all!!

Tumble Coach

Emma

I heard about the Reading Knights before I knew that Reading even had a university via our Instagram page (rkightscheer), and I was set on going to Reading University ever since.
A year later I don't regret a thing and I am now part of a physically challenging, rewarding and social society. Cheer allows me to continue with my love of team sports as well as pushing me out of a few comfort zones (as far as any dance is concerned).
My role is pretty self explanatory - I am here to help with tumbles of all abilities as well as choreographing the tumble sections of our routines.

Welfare

Holly

Hey guys! I'm Holly the welfare rep for Reading Knights Cheerleaders. If you have any issues or concerns regarding cheer or just general uni life I am your gal, I'm here for you all and to ensure that your time as a member of the society is the best that it could possibly be. Don't hesitate with anything, a problem shared is a problem halved and it's completely confidential. I've been a flyer on comp squad for the past two years now and I'm gutted that this will be my final year as a Reading Knight I'm a real friendly person who loves a chat so please come find me, I'll probably be pulling a scorp!

Anyone can join the committee! Currently we have first, second and third years on the committee - become a Reading Knights Cheerleader and run for a position in hustings and maybe next year your portrait could be here too! It's a rewarding experience being a member since working behind the scenes to keep this great society going is a reward by itself! Get involved!

It could be you!
