Training

Training sessions with the Knights are always a lot of fun and a laugh but feel like you have had a good workout by the end of the session. There will be 3 training sessions a week, of which you will be expected to attend the two for your squad. Attendance is kept and taken into account when picking the competition squads.

A typical training session for a Reading Knights Cheerleader:

Warm up constiting of laps and reps of crunches, burpies, the plank etc. Then a thorough stretching session to make sure there are no pulled muscles.

Stunting- a range of different stunt will be practiced, especially those in the comp routine closer to the competitions. Also, there is opportunity to try out different positions within a stunt group and the stunt groups are often mixed up so you get to know other people.

Jumps- there will be arm drills to make sure that everyone claps and is in time. Then we will practice all jumps i.e toe touch, hurkies and pikes and drill jump sequences line by line.

Dance or Tumbling- This is when we will practice either a routine for a match or for competition. This is broken down into sections and taught at a slow pace.  Or, we will practice and improve our basic tumbling, including dive rolls, cartwheels and round-offs.

Warm down stretch and putting away the mats.
